Overview

ITO introduced its first Osteotron bone growth stimulator in 1989, and OSTEOTRON IV is the current generation. It delivers pulsed ultrasound at a fixed 20% duty cycle with selectable intensities of 30, 45 or 60 mW/cm² (SATA), at 1.5 MHz or, with an optional probe, 750 kHz. Pulse frequency can be set to 100 or 1000 Hz.

Two output channels allow two sites to be treated at once, and the 32 mm probe heads are rated IPX7. A 3-inch LCD and three-step output control keep operation simple, and a 20- or 30-minute timer ends each session automatically. The main unit weighs about 240–300 g and can run on batteries or an AC adaptor, with a carrying case and probe retainers supplied.

ITO markets the device as a bone growth stimulator; use should follow the manufacturer's labelling and local regulatory approval.

Who it is for: orthopaedic and fracture clinics, sports medicine centres and hospital rehabilitation departments in the UAE.
